Feathered 11

by Chelsea Bighorn

The Pavilions at Talking Stick
9180 E. Indian Bend Rd #E1
Scottsdale, AZ 85258

On view through October, 2016

In Feathered 11, Chelsea Rae Bighorn honors her family history on multiple levels while exploring warrior figures found in many cultures. The backdrop of the installation was inspired by the patterns found on quilts made by her family for generations. The heads in the foreground are enlarged versions of the female figures Bighorn frequently draws—seeking to capture the strength displayed by warriors through the ages. The feathers adorning the heads here are Bighorn’s nod to her Assiniboine Sioux tribe and the leaders that have worn war bonnets proudly.

This installation was commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art and the Pavillions at Talking Stick
